Qatar New Industrial Designs Law:

Qatar has issued Law no. 10 of 2020 on the Protection of Industrial Designs on 19 April 2020 which is an invalidation of old design law issued in 2002 the Implementing Regulations of which have never been issued. We will keep a close follow-up till issuance of the Implementing Regulations of above law to keep you advised of design registration procedures and official fees involved I design protection. Prior to this law and till the patent office starts receiving new applications for registration of designs the only available way of protecting designs is publication of cautionary notices at regular intervals in local Qatari newspapers which helps in claiming ownership pf designs in infringement cases before courts and also alerting third parties against possible infringement.

New Official Fees in Ghana and Angola

The Registrar-General’s Department in Ghana announced a 20% increase in official fees for trademarks and patents which will enter into force in Ghana on 19 May 2020. The official fees increase came pursuant to the parliament of Ghana ratification of increase of official fees collected by the Registrar-General’s Department. JAH always try to maintain its professional charges without increase.

The official fees for filing and prosecuting of trademarks, patents, designs and utility models in Angola have been increased. This increase which is pursuant to Presidential Decree no. 02/20 was published in the Government Gazette of 04 March 2020 and came in force on 20 March 2020. One of the noteworthy changes in the official fees is that the filing, publication and registration of trademarks are paid upfront on filing.
